HOTELS WITH 100% CALCULATED CO₂ EMISSIONS OFFSET

At THB hotels, we are working to measure and manage the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our operations. This involves calculating the emissions our properties generate, applying measures to reduce them and, at selected hotels, offsetting the CO₂ emissions included in the calculation through CO₂ sequestration projects.

Environmental management is widely acknowledged as a key strategic priority for the tourism sector. And within this context, THB hotels is working to manage the various environmental aspects associated with our operations. This work includes measures relating to the efficient use of resources, water management, energy, waste and other environment-related issues.

We are continuing to work on measuring and managing the CO₂ emissions associated with our operations, integrating these actions into a range of management processes across our properties.

Within this framework, we have developed an initiative designed to measure, reduce and offset calculated CO₂ emissions. This initiative seeks to take environmental management a step further, not only by reducing the emissions associated with our operations but also by offsetting those that cannot be eliminated entirely through certified carbon sequestration projects.

This model is based on a structured process that begins with the detailed calculation of each establishment’s carbon footprint, allowing the precise identification of the main sources of emissions, as well as the implementation of targeted improvement measures. From there, the progressive reduction of emissions is promoted through resource optimisation, improved energy efficiency, and the incorporation of tools and technological solutions designed to enhance the project’s monitoring and management processes.

Once these measures are in place, we offset 100% of the calculated CO₂ emissions, amounting to more than 1,000 tCO₂e, across four hotels. Through this action, we can complete the offsetting process for the emissions included in the calculation. Offsetting is carried out through CO₂ sequestration projects registered with the Carbon Footprint, Offsetting and CO₂ Sequestration Projects Registry of Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO by its Spanish initials), and specifically through the Galicia Rexenera: A Granda (A Fonsagrada) project, promoted by the Galician Forestry Association and registered with MITECO (code 2022-b181).

The project to measure, reduce and offset CO₂ emissions is one of the environmental measures implemented by THB hotels, which also acts in other areas such as energy efficiency, responsible water management, the promotion of locally sourced products, and the optimisation of waste management, to name but a few.

These measures include the rollout of renewable energy sources, such as solar photovoltaic energy and geothermal energy, the optimisation of energy and water consumption, and the adoption of environmental management measures in services such as housekeeping, food and beverage operations, and maintenance.

With this initiative, THB hotels continues to drive the environmental management of its establishments, applying measures aimed at reducing specific resource consumption and emissions associated with its operations, improving resource monitoring and management, and reviewing a number of operational processes.
