At THB hotels, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and decarbonising our operations. Phase one of this process consisted of calculating our CO₂ emissions and we have since implemented measures and made investments to reduce them to a minimum.

Additionally, we have offset 100% of the emissions generated by the hotel through absorption projects certified by Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition. Among these, we take particular pride in supporting the regeneration of key natural spaces, thereby contributing to a more sustainable future.

Our pools are treated with an innovative and pioneering disinfection system that is much more sustainable, eco-friendly, and natural, as it produces no waste and does not cause allergies or irritation. This choice strengthens our commitment to the environment, offering a healthy and nature-friendly swimming experience by eliminating the use of chemicals such as chlorine. 

We use photovoltaic panels to generate electricity from solar energy. This technology allows us to reduce conventional energy consumption and carbon emissions, minimising our environmental impact. The photovoltaic panels transform sunlight into electricity in a clean and efficient manner, supporting our commitment to sustainability and caring for the environment. 

At THB hotels, we are firm believers in more responsible tourism, which is why we have launched our Green Care Cleaning Plan. We use concentrated products and efficient dosing systems that help us significantly reduce single-use plastics without compromising effectiveness or safety when cleaning our hotels. 
Every small action counts, and with this initiative, we are minimising our environmental impact while continuing to take care of every detail of your stay. 

We have introduced measures to eliminate single-use plastics and drive sustainability. We have replaced capsule coffee machines with ground coffee alternatives, and now use biodegradable or reusable straws instead of plastic ones. In our restaurants, we have replaced single portion items, such as jams, for loose produce. Furthermore, in the bathrooms, we now provide refillable shower gel and shampoo dispensers, significantly reducing our use of plastic packaging.

We smart-weigh all the waste we generate using scales equipped with a technological system that provides real-time data on waste fractions that allow us to monitor and analyse our waste production in detail. In turn, this enables us to introduce effective actions to reduce waste generation, thereby promoting more sustainable and responsible waste management.

At THB hotels, we are committed to discovering more sustainable and authentic ways of enjoying wine. We carefully select top-quality local wines, serving them straight from traditional barrels, thereby reducing packaging waste and minimising our ecological footprint.                 

As well as being a sustainable alternative, this practice allows the wine to be enjoyed in its purest form, conserving all its original flavour and character.

Since 2017, we have calculated and registered our carbon footprint with Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. Since 2021, we have also verified our Scope 1 and 2 emissions in accordance with international GHG Protocol methodology. This analysis allows us to identify and reduce our emissions through effective actions. By monitoring and evaluating our activities, we can implement sustainable strategies that help protect the environment.

We work hard to manage water both efficiently and responsibly through the introduction of advanced systems to control and optimise our water use. Ongoing monitoring and the introduction of innovative technologies allow us to guarantee the efficient and sustainable consumption of this essential resource. These practices enable us to cut water waste, minimise our environmental impact and guarantee the responsible management of all our operations. Our commitment to sustainable is reflected in every drop we use, thereby contributing to the conservation of natural resources.

Most of our fruits, greens and vegetable products come from a local supplier, thereby guaranteeing their origin and proximity. In addition, as part of our drive to reduce food waste, we also procure these products in pre-cut format in specific amounts. This enables us to offer our guests fresh, top quality produce, whilst also supporting the local economy, promoting the responsible use of the resources available and progressing towards net-zero waste.

With the aim of saving water and promoting responsible habits, we have come up with a playlist featuring 4-minute songs, which, according to the WHO, is just how long a shower should last. We encourage our guests to listen to their favourite song as they shower, which will help them limit it to 4 minutes. This action can save up to 10 litres of water per minute, accumulating a significant amount over time and contributing to the conservation of this vital resource. It's a great way of encouraging sustainable water use and caring for the environment.

We have replaced the traditional PVC key cards with wristbands that not only identify our guests' meal plan but also allow them to open room doors using NFC technology. Made from recycled cotton fabric and wood, these wristbands help reduce plastic waste and promote the use of eco-friendly materials.

We also encourage the return of these wristbands after their use, in order to give them a second life and prevent waste.

We firmly believe in the importance of environmental education and ongoing training for our team, which is why our THB hotels corporate training plan includes visits to TIRME, enabling our workers to obtain a first-hand insight into the urban waste management system used on the island of Mallorca. A system based on reducing and recovering all waste products in order to guarantee a sustainable and circular destination. This experience raises awareness of the need for correct waste sorting and good environmental practices.

We offer a list of local wines that hold the “Vi de la Terra” designation. This Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) guarantees the quality and authenticity of wines made with locally grown grapes. What's more, as part of our commitment to sustainability, all the glass bottles are returned to the supplier for reuse, thereby reducing the environmental impact and driving responsible practices. This way, our guests can enjoy the unique and authentic flavours of our land.

This training action for employees is intended to promote authentic experiences for guests, enabling them to discover the destination and its culture. The information provided included details of how to behave when visiting natural areas, local communities and cultural or historic sites. Part of the training was to ensure that both employees and guests have easy access to this information, which is displayed publicly on the information totem in the hotel reception area. It features clear instructions and useful tips for ensuring a respectful and enriching stay.

In collaboration with Ibiza Council's Waste Office, we organise talks on “Environmental Awareness and Waste Management” for our employees to ensure they know how to handle the waste generated in our hotels correctly. During the talks, employees receive essential information and practical tips on how to improve the internal management of the waste generated. We actively promote actions designed to minimise our environmental impact and drive the entire team's commitment to sustainable practices.

We have introduced locally sourced tea from the T'Estim brand, a project set up by the Estel de Llevant Association for the production of organic teas and infusions in Mallorca. T'Estim products are 100% Mallorcan and organic farming certified. This project promotes mental health initiatives, creating job opportunities for people with mental health disorders through dual vocational training in gardening and agriculture. More than twenty people with mental health-related disabilities have benefited from this initiative. Every cup supports a noble and local cause.

We apply sustainable water management practices, including the treatment and reuse of grey water. We employ a cutting-edge chemical process to filter and clean the grey waters, allowing them to be safely reused in WC systems. This initiative not only cuts potable water consumption, but also contributes to the conservation of hydric resources. 

As part of our commitment to more sustainable and authentic mixology, we craft our cocktails using locally sourced ingredients. We carefully select local produce that will guarantee maximum freshness, quality, and a lower environmental impact.

Each cocktail is a unique experience, blending local flavours with creativity, promoting responsible consumption, and supporting local producers.

We use geothermal energy as part of our commitment to the environment. Geothermal energy harnesses the Earth's natural heat to regulate the temperature of our spaces, significantly reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. This sustainable and efficient method helps decrease our environmental impact and promotes the use of clean energy sources. 

We monitor, analyse, and optimise our consumption in order to minimise our impact on the environment. This is possible thanks to our implementation of state-of-the-art technologies and efficient practices to reduce the use of energy, water, and other resources. An approach that allows us to lower emissions and generate less waste, contributing to environmental protection.

We have installed solar panels to harness the sun's energy and cut our carbon emissions. This energy is used to heat water for human consumption. This clean, renewable energy enables us to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, which in turn minimises our impact on the environment. Solar panels contribute significantly to sustainability by providing efficient and eco-friendly energy.

We carry out the collection of hazardous and special waste to protect the environment and ensure everyone's safety. These types of waste, which include chemical products, batteries, and electronic devices, among others, require proper handling and disposal to prevent soil and water contamination. By managing these materials responsibly, we can prevent ecological damage and promote sustainable practices.

One of the ways we minimise our impact on the environment is the collection of used vegetable oils. This action is vital, because pouring oils down drains can contaminate water and damage ecosystems. By recycling vegetable oils, we prevent pollution and drive the circular economy, transforming waste into biofuels and other useful products.
