Here at THB hotels we know just how important it is to care for the environment, which is why, year after year, we continue to consolidate our commitment to the planet with a series of actions aimed at promoting responsible tourism.

Under the ECO friendly brand, we apply a business model that enables us to drive improvements in all our processes in order to continuously reduce our impact on the environment. At the same time, we work to ensure that all our facilities and services meet our strict quality standards and guarantee complete customer satisfaction.

In order to achieve this, we actively focus on four key concepts that are present in all areas of our company.

    - As a part of our mission to reduce our carbon footprint,we have automated the daily readings of the meters and replaced the diesel oil boilers with more efficient gas condensing alternatives.

We are also improving our energy efficiency rates by installing heat recovery systems and using low consumption equipment. We are continuing to install solar panels at our properties and by 2023 they will all be powered by this type of renewable energy.

Furthermore, we are carrying out ongoing actions to inform and raise awareness among our workers and guests of the need to make energy savings.

Thanks to all these actions, we are proud to announce that we have reduced our global energy consumption by 25%.

    - Sustainable water management
Water consumption has been cut by 38% thanks to the replacement of machinery and water consumption processes with more efficient options. Meters have been installed in order to monitor the data and detect possible leaks in all our hotels.

Automating the irrigation systems in our hotels’ grounds and kitchen gardens is another of the actions designed to reduce our water consumption.

    - Responsible consumption
We have introduced the following actions in order to reduce the amount of waste generated by 82%:
    - Elimination of capsule coffee machines, returning to a traditional system of loose coffee beans.
    - 75% reduction in the use of cartons.
    - Elimination of all single use plastic cups and straws.
    - All individual portion foods (butter, salt, ice cream, sauces, etc.) have been replaced with better quality loose foods. We also make all efforts to ensure that they are locally sourced.
    - Gradual reduction and elimination of individual amenities in rooms, replacing them with refillable dispensers.

It is also important to mention at this point that kitchen gardens have been planted at two of our hotels, where we will be growing fruit, vegetables and aromatic herbs in order to promote self-sufficiency.

Also worthy of mention is the fact that all our properties have recycling and waste sorting points that are accessible for both customers and employees.

    - Social commitment
In order to raise awareness among our customers, we have created  ECO friendly Corners at our hotels. These are spaces where adults and children alike can learn how to save water and energy as well as receive tips on recycling and its importance for our planet.

We carry out group activities that encourage our customers to protect the environment during their holidays and improve environmental communication, especially among our younger guests.

Another of THB hotels’ goals is to support local the local flora, fauna, culture and gastronomy. We play an active part in the local community, collaborating with and supporting initiatives in our destinations.

The results of all these efforts are our excellent results and recognition by major institutions. Indeed, over the last few years, the THB Gran Playa, THB Flora, THB Royal and THB Tropical Island hotels have all received Travelife Gold certification, an international standard that reflects the chain’s commitment to minimising the environmental impact of its activity and constantly improving its services.

At THB hotels we are fully aware of our responsibility. It is precisely for that reason that year after year we work hard to improve our figures in order to ensure a sustainable tourism model that cares for the environment.

Each year since 2017, we have calculated the carbon footprint generated by our activities in order to progressively reduce the emissions we generate. The results have improved steadily since then. The carbon footprint calculation, which covers the period from 2017 to the present day, has revealed that THB hotels has cut its CO2 emissions by 4,125 tons, the equivalent of planting approximately 230,000 trees. This amounts to a 50.15% reduction in our CO2 emissions.

These excellent results have been possible thanks to the application of sustainability criteria to all the chain’s activity and the drive to implement environmentally friendly practices in areas such as food and beverage, energy and water, among others.
