Every year on 22nd April, the planet comes together to celebrate World Earth Day, a day to reflect on the impact we have on the planet and how we can contribute to its protection.
At THB hotels, it is more than just a date on the calendar: for us, it is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to a more conscious, respectful, and responsible tourism model.Tourism with a purpose: what we doSustainability lies at the heart of THB hotels’ strategy. Indeed, we are committed to growth that not only delivers memorable experiences for our guests but also has a positive impact on the environment. Below are just some of the measures we have introduced across all our hotels:- The elimination of single-use plastics and optimisation of recycling systems.- Responsible water consumption based on more efficient facilities and actions to raise guest awareness.- Driving awareness and education through workshops, events, and environmental training in collaboration with organisations such as TIRME, the Consell (island council) of Ibiza’s Waste Office or EMAYA.- Locally sourced produce, including wines with the "Vi de la Terra" designation of origin, organic "T’estim" infusions, fruits and vegetables from local suppliers, as well as cocktails crafted with ingredients from the region.- Installation of photovoltaic solar panels to reduce our energy dependency and emissions.- Collection of used vegetable oils to minimise our impact on the environment.- As part of our Green Care Cleaning Plan, we use concentrated products that are diluted in a controlled system, cutting our consumption of plastics and reducing our impact on the environment.- Our commitment to the environment includes the use of geothermal energy that uses the earth’s natural heat to regulate the temperature of our spaces. This enables us to significantly reduce our energy consumption and carbon emissions.
- We operate real-time smart waste weighing, which allows us to monitor, analyse, and implement effective actions that will reduce the amount of waste we produce and drive a more sustainable management model.- We work closely with organisations such as the Deixalles Foundation (waste management and reuse) and Tursiops, an organisation dedicated to the conservation of cetaceans in the Balearic Islands’ waters.- We invest in carbon offset projects such as the “A Granda – A Fonsagrada” reforestation project in Galicia, certified by Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition.A long-term commitmentIn addition to environmental initiatives, THB hotels also promotes fairer and more socially responsible tourism through initiatives such as THB College, a training programme that promotes professional and career development within the hotel sector.With a 36% reduction in our emissions per stay since 2017, we are continuing to move towards our goal of a more sustainable and transparent management model, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).As a traveller, how can you help?Everyone who travels can also help bring about these changes. As a guest, you can contribute through sustainable actions during your holiday:
- Reuse towels and take shorter showers.
- Use refillable bottles and avoid single-use plastics.
- Respect the biodiversity and natural surroundings.
