Being a sustainable traveller sets you apart from conventional tourists, as you adopt measures aimed at reducing your carbon footprint, energy and water consumption and conserving the ecosystems of natural resources. In this post,  THB hotels gives you a few tips on how to be an eco-responsible tourist and enjoy a sustainable holiday.

    5 actions for responsible tourism

Use public transport: Whenever possible, choose means of transport such as buses and trains that generate fewer carbon emissions. If you need to hire a vehicle, choose a fuel efficient option or hybrid or electric alternatives.

Reduce, reuse and recycle: Put the principle of the three “Rs” into practice when travelling. At all THB hotels you’ll find several  ECO Friendly points for your organic, plastic, glass and paper or cardboard waste. We also recommend you bring a reusable water bottle with you to prevent the use of plastic bottles.

Respect nature and wildlife:  Whether you’re visiting Timanfaya National Park, Albufera Park on Mallorca, or simply taking a walk along the beach or swimming in the coves, remember to follow the rules and regulations to protect the environment. Don’t leave litter, don’t disturb the animals and protect the fragile ecosystems you come across.

Save energy and water: Over the last few years, here at THB hotels we have reduced our water consumption by 38% and we encourage our guests to follow our example. You can do this by taking responsible actions at your choice of accommodation such as turning off the lights and air conditioning when you don’t need them and reusing towels instead of asking for fresh ones each day. In addition, try to be aware of the amount of water you consume during your stay.

Support local producers: Discover and enjoy the local culture by buying the products and services offered by local businesses. By doing so, you’ll be contributing to the local economy and reducing the environmental impact related to long-distance goods traffic.

Eco-friendly tourists not only contribute to protecting the environment, but also enable local communities to enjoy the benefits of tourism in a sustainable manner. By adopting these practices, you’ll become an eco-responsible tourist, helping to conserve the environment and wellbeing of the local communities you visit. Remember that we can all make a difference and that every gesture, no matter how small, will help to build a more sustainable future based on responsible tourism.
