WE SEE OUT 2022 AND WELCOME IN 2023

    DECEMBER

    29

    dsc06933>
When the temperature starts dropping and December is coming to an end, here at THB hotels we like to take a look back at the year we are about to bid farewell to.

2022 began with the end of the eruption of the volcano on La Palma in the Canary Islands,  and we were finally able to put behind us the pandemic caused by COVID-19.  The entire world was looking ahead to the new year with hope, thinking that 2022 would be a year of getting back to normal. However, on 20th February, we awoke to the terrible news of the outbreak of war in Ukraine. A conflict that unfortunately continues to bring pain and suffering to the people of Ukraine and the whole world.

Here at THB hotels, we wanted to make our contribution to helping the Ukrainian refugees that arrived in our destinations with donations of beds and food.

We wish we didn’t have to include this particular event in our news, but it is part of our history. Our dearest wish is to start 2023 with the end of the war.

Taking a look back at our journey through 2022, we have drawn up a list of the various actions we have carried out in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. Here are some of the top news stories and events from 2022:

    COLLABORATIONS IN THE SOCIAL SPHERE:

Care and respect for people, culture and the society we live in are extremely important to THB hotels and receive all our attention. Here are a few of the actions driven by us this year:

    - We’ve added a new room type at the THB Gran Playa (Can Picafort, Mallorca):  the Cáritas Solidarity Room, where the full amount from each booking goes to changing the lives of many people.
    - We’ve collaborated with the Shambala Foundation, which works to provide help and assistance for young people on Mallorca with fewer opportunities. We provided free accommodation for the guests attending the Shambala Talks carried out on the island.
    - When our hotels closed at the end of the season, we donated our surplus food to the local authorities in the municipalities where our properties are located.
    - We joined the Companies that Help programme, run by the Balearic Islands’ Confederation of Business Associations (CAEB in its Spanish initials) and the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE in its Spanish initials). Following our contribution of toys and donations for food clubs, we were included on the “Companies with a commitment, companies with values”.
    - The THB Ocean Beach (San Antonio, Ibiza) joined the Feim que Circuli programme as part of its collaboration with the Deixalles Foundation,  donating reusable items such as furniture and electronic appliances, etc.
    - We donated gift vouchers for stays at our hotels for various prize draws run by the Natzaret Foundation. This organisation works to raise money to provide integral education for children and young people.
    - We participated in the Expedia Caring Day campaign by donating clothing.
    - As the festive season drew near, we worked with various not-for-profit organisations such as the Red Cross and Aldeas Infantiles, as well as with Can Picafort Council, organising toy collections at our central offices.

    ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENTS

As part of our commitment to fight against climate change, we continue to opt for more sustainable materials and join forces with environmental organisations we know we can believe in and trust.

In 2022 we withdrew plastic guest wristbands, replacing them with alternatives made from fabric and PET.

We also renewed our collaboration agreement with the Tursiops Association for another two years. This organisation works to conserve and protect the cetacean populations that live in the Mediterranean and we contributed by donating 5% of our Boxing Day Campaign, which is launched annually on 26th December.

THB College – OUR PRIDE AND JOY:

Based on the values of education, growth, respect and future vision, this  rapidly growing educational project is helping numerous young people and workers at  THB hotels.

In 2022 we celebrated the II Graduation of the THB College’s Kitchen Dual Vocational Training Programme.

We also launched the 2023 edition for our Restaurant and Catering Course. We’re looking for committed, enthusiastic and responsible young people, eager to learn a profession whilst working.

Learn more about our training programmes here.

    SUPPORT FOR SPORT

THB hotels has been supporting local sports clubs for many years now. Our goal is to promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle among our workers, customers and suppliers.

These are the teams that have sported the THB  hotels brand name on their shirts in 2022 and whom we are immensely proud of: Endurance THB hotels Sport Club,  Palma Futsal, Palmer Basket, Azul Marino Basket and the Yaiza Women’s Football Club.

INNOVATION AND IMPROVEMENTS TO THB hotels EXPERIENCES:

    - THE THB Royal (Playa Blanca, Lanzarote) received the NPS award for the Best Marmara Club of the 21-22 winter season. This award is based on the Net Promoter Score (NPS), a tool used to measure guest satisfaction, the scores received by hotel services and the level of recommendation.
    - Our three hotels on Lanzarote - the THB Flora (Puerto del Carmen), THB Royal and THB Tropical Island (Playa Blanca) have renewed their Travelife Gold certificate, international recognition of the chain’s undertaking to minimise the environmental impact of its activity and guaranteeing the standard and ongoing improvement of its services.
    - A new hotel has joined the family, located in the highly acclaimed resort of Alcudia (Mallorca) - the  THB Bamboo Alcudia. This is a new concept in sustainable hotels that are driven by efficient energy systems, the use of renewable energies and a major commitment to caring for the environment and society, as well as gastronomy based on locally sourced produce.

Looking ahead to 2023, we’ll be starting the year with various improvements to our facilities and services:

    - At the THB San Fermín (Benalmádena, Malaga), we’ll be completing the renovation of the rooms and buffet, adding a new children’s area for the entertainment of our younger guests.
    - In Ibiza Town, at the THB Los Molinos, we’ve soundproofed the front of the property to guarantee our guests a great night’s sleep.
    - The THB Sa Coma Platja (Sa Coma, Mallorca) will be opening with a new facility – a Mexican restaurant.
    - In almost all our hotels, we’ve replaced the PVC door key cards with organic cotton wristbands and a bamboo tac with RFC technology.
    - We’ve installed solar panels in all our hotels and central offices in order to guarantee the integral use of renewable energies.

We’ll be continuing with many of the projects and actions carried out in 2022. For us, helping  society, the environment and culture never go out of fashion.
