THB hotels moves towards a circular economy for more sustainable tourism

At THB hotels, we believe in the importance of caring for our environment and working together to build a more sustainable world. A year ago, we published our roadmap towards a circular economy. Today, we remain firmly committed to this goal, expanding and consolidating our actions for more responsible tourism.

WHAT IS THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY?

The circular economy is a model that aims to minimise waste as much as possible by encouraging the reuse, repair, refurbishment and recycling of materials and products, avoiding the “use and dispose” approach. At THB hotels, we apply this model by incorporating concrete measures across all our processes, from working with suppliers to raising awareness among employees and guests, all aligned with our strategy.

OUR ACTIONS IN THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Among our most notable initiatives is the prioritised use of renewable energy, such as photovoltaic panels and geothermal systems, which enable us to generate electricity and regulate indoor climate efficiently and cleanly. We have improved the thermal insulation of our buildings and carry out detailed monitoring of our carbon footprint, offsetting emissions through reforestation projects. Thanks to these measures and the offsetting of emissions, we are moving closer to the goal of becoming carbon-neutral hotels – a concept increasingly recognised within sustainable tourism.

With the aim of reducing environmental impact, we continue to make progress towards a more welcoming and functional environment. We have replaced various signage and decorative elements with wooden alternatives, adding warmth and a more natural and aesthetic touch to our facilities.

Efficient water management is another key pillar: we use advanced technologies to reuse grey water and innovative disinfection systems in swimming pools that avoid the use of harsh chemicals, helping to conserve this vital resource.

We are also working to reduce waste and have eliminated single-use plastics, promoting biodegradable materials and smart separation and recycling systems. Practices such as the use of bulk wine barrels and the reuse of materials bring us ever closer to a zero-waste model.

Local consumption and Km0 products are an essential part of our gastronomy, with fresh, sustainable ingredients from committed suppliers that also support the regional economy and reduce transport-related emissions.

Raising awareness among employees, guests and partners is key to our strategy, with educational and collaborative initiatives that strengthen environmental awareness and shared commitment. Among the most notable are the “1 Song, 1 Shower” campaign, which encourages our guests to reduce water consumption during their stay, and training sessions at waste management plants such as TIRME, which enhance our team’s environmental awareness.

At THB hotels, we are progressing firmly and decisively towards a circular economy, convinced that every action counts in building a more sustainable future for tourism and the planet.
