On 14th May, the Balearic Islands School of Tourism (ETB) facilities in Manacor hosted the official opening of its new cookery school, in collaboration with the Dual THB College programme, a THB hotels social and education initiative.

This is a pioneering culinary learning system based on an exclusive school and business partnership, where students alternate their academic training at THB College and the School of Tourism with real, paid employment at THB hotels.

The new school offers more than 200 square metres of fully-equipped facilities that include the workshop (163 m2) and classroom (60 m2).

The Cookery School has already welcomed its first pupils: 14 students aged between 16 and 25 who are members of the first Dual Vocational Training cookery class, run by THB College, THB hotels’ training centre.

The DUAL THB College project is based on the philosophy that each person is an asset and has a unique role to play in the project. The hotel managers are ‘guides’, the department heads ‘ambassadors’, whilst the project managers act as ‘mentors’.

The opening event was attended by the President of the Balearic Island School of Tourism, Mr Felipe Moreno, who was joined by THB hotels’ CEO, Miquel Miralles; the Director of the ETB, María José Moreno; the Principal of the ETB in Manacor, Araceli García; and Ana Zorita, Head of Training and Quality at THB hotels. They were accompanied by a large representation of the THB hotels team as well as the various THB hotel managers.

Following the opening ceremony, the guests enjoyed a cocktail reception prepared by Cookery School pupils.

THB College is the driving force for promotion, dissemination, awareness-raising and training, which all contribute to the ultimate transformation of the THB hotels company and the overall development and progress of society.
